One of the benefits of working for multiple assignors and organizations is that you are always near the top of someone’s totem pole. So while I might not get a High School playoff game for years, I always get playoffs and finals for the younger kids. Had a great game last night…minor leage little league…due to a scheduling snafu we worked a 4 man crew (a 1st for all of us). It was the league final and, for the 1st tim e in years, there were 2 “hometown” teams in the final. They had announcers, and a girls sang the national anthem…the whole thing.
This was a league were they cut off the number of runs at 5 per inning and hoped to be done in 2 1.2 hours, but our game was 0-0 going into the bottom of the 6th. The home plate guy had a nice big zone that had the kids swinging. there were a lot of swinging strikes, but also plent of plays..the last few innings had guys on base but no one got one in. Bottom 5 the hime team had bases loaded and a 3-0 count and and didnt score…In the bottom of the 6th, after a great play by the SS to sgve the winning run, with 2 outs and a runner on 3rd, they got a clean single to score the winning run…really fun for all involved
Today I had a 2nd game of a 2 out of 3 over at Morristown National Little League, and the team that was down tied the series. Nothing noteworthy – 8 run win. I hope i get the assignment to do the final on MOnday
